After the menopause

We have been getting a number of questions from women wanting to know what happens after the menopause. As one lady said, ‘Is that the end?’

Not at all! For many women, reaching ‘the other side’ is quite a relief. Often symptoms that have dogged them for years stop and they get a new lease of life. Once your hormones have levelled out the body has more energy for other things.

Yes, there are physical changes. Some women find their libido crashes whilst others find that it’s revved up as the worry about pregnancy has finally gone. Skin, hair and body shape can change but the range of supplements and herbs available now allows us to look after ourselves really well. We have so many more opportunities as women of our age today than we did even 30 years ago. Post-menopausal women can look fabulous – think of Helen Mirren or Dame Judy Dench! They just ooze energy and confidence and I bet we all know at least one older woman who inspires us.

For me, reaching this post menopausal age has been great. I feel better, am more energetic and fitter that I was in my 40s and I am definitely having more fun!

But, and this is the big ‘but’, you still need to take care of yourself and yes it does take more effort to eat well, exercise and relax; but it is so worth it!
